Premise

A way to make the game 'Sky: Children of the Light' more interesting. Currently contains bingo sheets for the Any%, NG+ and NG+ NMG speedrun categories to race other players with.

Process

I started speedrunning Sky: Children of the Light in 2020. I got myself a world record but eventually I got bored of speedrunning because it demanded certain requirements that would affect my normal playstyle too much. Eventually I decided to make a Bingo set for other players to use and have fun with.

I asked the top runner of the Any% category who is also a mod in the community to help me out a bit with the different categories and which ones to include. In the end we managed to make three bingo for the main three categories: an Any% bingo, a NG+ bingo and a NG+NMG bingo.

The Any% and NG+ boards are designed for people who like the challenge of speedrunning against other people. Any% races start from a blank savefile, whilst NG+ races are a bit more free to start from requirements that can be set by the players themselves.

The NG+NMG board is specifically designed for non-speedrunners, and is aimed at people who want to test their knowledge whilst not requiring the level movement which a speedrunner would know.

After playing and going back and forth on what should and what should not be allowed we went to some testing versions, in which we raced for a few hours at a time and see how doable the bingo boards were.

One of the biggest issues we ran into was balancing the "Relive [x] Spirit" goal with the other goals. Adding additional goals did not help much, though eventually the best way to balance was to recommend new players (and players who have not played with bingo boards before) to only include base-game spirits, and for more advanced players to leave the base-game spirits out.

For all the boards I made a guidance "ruleset", which can be adjusted to the level of knowledge of players and how comfortable they are with the game.
